The role of gamekeepers in tackling wildfires has been widely applauded by SNP MSP Kate Forbes after visiting representatives of the Scotland Regional Moorland Groups at a wildfire summit in Beauly last week.

As was first reported by the Ross-Shire Journal a new video being released this week will highlight the role played by gamekeepers, stalkers and rural workers in tackling the huge wildfire at Cannich earlier this year.

Loch Ness Rural Communities, a group highlighting land management, employment, wildlife and conservation that goes on in the straths around Loch Ness, has released the film in partnership with Scotland’s Regional Moorland Groups.

Scottish policy makers have become increasingly vocal about the social, environmental and economic benefits brought by driven grouse shooting. In the last Westminster Hall grouse debate, SNP MP for the Angus Glens, Dave Doogan, reinforced the vital role driven grouse shooting plays in the economic viability of his constituency.
